Bicholim (Goa) Police have booked three senior officials of Vedanta Sesa Goa company holding them responsible for death of Engineer Umesh Pradhan.
Engineer Umesh Pradhan (31) had died after allegedly falling accidently while on duty on September 3 at 8 p.m. at Met Coke Division of the company located at Amona village, 30 kms away from here.
Bicholim police which is investigation the case has filed first information report against three company officials including Dinesh Kamat (shift incharge), Adhip Pai (Maintenance Head) and Navnath Vhatte (Head Value Added Business).
Police Inspector Sanjay Dalvi said that all the three officials are booked under section 336 (endangered life or personal safety of others) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
He said that the accused compelled Pradhan to work beyond working hours, without following standard operating procedure mandate by the company and without providing adequate safety measures.
Dalvi said that the initial investigations have revealed that the accused persons made Pradhan to proceed for maintenance of conveyer belt at lesser illuminated area having knowledge that it may endanger his life and personal safety.
“As a result, Pradhan got trapped in conveyer belt, sustained serious bleeding injury to his forehead and later succumbed to injuries while being shifted for medical treatment at Primary Health centre in Sankhalim village,” he said.
