Porvorim (Goa): Just-elected Rajya Sabha member of parliament Vinay Tendulkar will continue to head BJP’s Goa unit till his party relieves him from the post.
“I will continue to be Goa unit chief of BJP till my party wishes. Although I have become member of parliament in Rajya Sabha I will continue working for the party organization in the State. The ongoing party programmes will continue,” Tendulkar said.
In the election held yesterday, Tendulkar defeated Congress candidate Shantaram Naik by 22-16 votes.
Tendulkar said that it is for the party to decide whether to continue him as BJP state president or relieve of the charge. “Though I am Rajya Sabha MP, my area of operation will always remain Goa. I will not leave Goa politics,” he said adding that he would be in Delhi only during Parliament or important meetings.
He said that his aim is to spend cent per cent of the MPLAD fund allotted to him for the welfare of the State.
Tendulkar stated that his priority would be to do works in the constituencies of MLAs who have voted for him. “First priority will be do works in 22 constituencies whose MLAs voted for me. Also in two constituencies of Panaji and Valpoi where by-election is pending and BJP is going to win,” he said.
Besides 21 legislators supporting Manohar Parrikar led government, there are apprehensions that NCP MLA Churchill Alemao too has voted for Tendulkar during the polls held yesterday.
