Fatorda (Goa)
Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai today posted a video message to clarify about his statement which quoted him as terming domestic tourists as ‘scum of earth’. He said he was quoted out of context by a section of media. This is what he said in a video message today:
“The smallest of the tourists of 6.5 millions of tourists in goa have crated biggest nuisance. These people have no civic sense and they are the ones who are creating maximum garbage and maximum nuisance in goa.
So there is a general feeling amongst the people of goa that we need to reorient our tourism to what it was before. Goa’s model of development is about low density high cost, it is not about quantity but about quality. I am speaking on behalf of people of Goa. we may be laid back but we wil not be laid back about this. I cannot be apologetic about this. My party is willing to bell the cat. We want to retain the unique of identity of goa when it comes to architecture, our ethos, tolerance but at the same time we don’t want to develop goa in the way that it is only about the numbers and not about quality.
I had not called everyone from 6.5 million as scum of the earth but had called certain section of them were creating nuisance are actually the scum of the earth and we should not have such tourists in goa. we need to have quality tourists come to goa by which people of goa benefit. Goa is looking at scenario. 50 years back some people were trying to merge goa with Maharashtra but now we are looking at the scenario where we are gobbled up from within and we will have to espose this sentiments. We are regionalistic party which is espousing this sentiments and I am not apologetic about it. This is not about xenophobia but this is about speaking for what the Goans believe.”
