Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress today held unique protest with the garland of sanitary pads around their neck demanding that the central government should withdraw GST on this item essential for women.
During the protest held at Margao city, GPMC Chief Pratima Coutinho demanded that the sanitary pads should be provided free of cost to women at selected places by the government.
The protest which was attended by around 100 women had few of the members wearing garland of sanitary pads around their neck. Coutinho said that they have also couriered a parcel of sanitary pads to Prime Minister Narendra Modi which are signed by women to press for their demands.
“The imposition of GST has made the pads unaffordable for the common people. This is one commodity is required for the women. Union government should have been sensitive towards the demands to make sanitary pads affordable,” she said
