Panaji (Goa): The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd has begun developing a dedicated cycling track for the capital with three kms stretch already tendered.
“The three kms starting from Senior Citizens Park at Campal to Children’s Park, Opposite Directorate of Health Services has been tendered and the work has also begun. This is just a small stretch which is covered in Phase – I,” Managing Director and CEO at Imagine Panjim Swayan Chaudhuri said.
The Phase – II will cover the belt from the Children’s Park till the promenade opposite Old GMC and the other side of Senior Citizens Park to Miramar whereas Phase – III will come er the entire long stretch from Miramar to Dona Paula. The project, Chaudhuri revealed will also include construction of a soft infrastructure for the snack selling kiosks.
While the cycling track is being built keeping in view the ecology, the Smart City team has simultaneously launched the very unique concept in the country – Cycle Share System.
On lines with rental cabs and bikes, bicycles are now available on rent under the Smart City Mission. The team introduced 20 bicycles on trial basis evoking huge response from the people. Another 100 cycles are soon to be added.
In the next three months, the project’s implementation will be full fledged with IPSCDL tentatively identifying 60 docking stations across the city.
