Goa’s sub-junior shuttler Shourya Joshi has been selected to attend an advanced training camp at Djarum, Indonesia which will be held during the period between 3rd week of November 2018 to 3rd week of January 2019 in three separate batches.
Entire cost (100%) on the overseas coaching will be borne by the Badminton Association of India (BAI). Shourya is among the 24 participants (12 boys and 12 girls) who have been identified as the future talent by a group of coaches who conducted the two phases of the National Sub-Junior Badminton Coaching camp held at Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, Bangalore during June/July 2018.
PB Djarum, also known as Djarum Badminton Club, is a premier badminton academy in Indonesia which has successfully established a proven track record for developing talented players and turning them into competitive athletes. Its name gained recognition when Indonesia won the Thomas Cup in 1984 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At that time, out of eight players, seven came from PB Djarum, namely, Liem Swie King, Hastomo Arbi, Hadiyanto, Kartono, Heryanto, Christian Hadinata, and Hadibowo. Its athletes have contributed gold medals in major international events including the Olympics, All England, World Championship, Sudirman, Thomas and Uber Cups.
