Goa’s Shourya Joshi’s dream season continued as he bagged his second successive glory within a few weeks in Bahrain. At the beginning of May, Shourya, a young rising talent from Goa, was in the news for his twin U15 and U17 Badminton titles in the India Club Open tournament in Dubai. In Bahrain a few weeks later, Shourya bettered his performance to win a triple crown at the GCC Junior Open Badminton Tournament 2018.
Some beautiful crosscourt drops followed by fearsome smashes marked Shourya’s 23-21, 21-16 straight set win in U19 against Sarvesh Rajkumar from Kuwait . Earlier In quarterfinals he won against Egypt’s seeded player Omar Fenoon 15-7 ,15-9 & in the semi-finals, he beat Nadeem Nahar (Bahrain) 21-13, 21-7.
Shourya also went ahead to win U17 and U15 titles beating his opponent Nabhan Najeeb 21-18, 21-3 in U17 and 21-19, 21-13 in U15 to complete his triple crown haul.
“I thank my Goan coach Govind Navelkar who has been instrumental in shaping my initial career and my present coaches at Prime Star Sports Academy in Dubai where I am currently training”, said Shourya after his triple crown wins.
