Panaji: CM Manohar Parrikar today said that the State will follow the existing law as far as the issue of beef ban is concerned in the coastal state.

“We will follow what is existing law. We believe in law and will follow it. The governments are there to ensure proper governance and therefore follow law absolutely as it is,” Parrikar said responding to a question on statement by senior VHP leader on beef ban.

“I cannot stop anyone (from speaking) as far as freedom of speech exists,” said Parrikar

VHP leader Radha Krishna Manori had claimed that the organisation will impose ban on eating beef in Goa in next one or two years.

“In this country, no one has stopped another person from making a statement,” Parrikar added.

Manori’s statement was condemned by coalition partners of BJP including Goa Forward party who had threatened that the VHP leader would be banned in the State, if he tries to disturb communal harmony.
