GOVT DRAFTS MASTER PLAN FOR WATER RESOURCES

Panaji (Goa) Water Resources Minister Vinod Palyekar today told the State Legislative Assembly that Government has drafted a Master Plan for development of four rivers for tapping the water resources till the year 2050.

Minister also said that government has also constituted Task Force to identify the areas and suggest measures to improve the irrigation and agriculture yield in the State.

Congress MLA Jeniffer Monserrate had raised the question on steps taken by the Government to ease the shortage of water supply in the State.

Palyekar informed that a master plan for four major rivers- Mhadei, Zuari, Talpona, Galjibag is been prepared, under which various schemes have been proposed for improving the supply of water.

“The department has constructed Major, Medium and Minor storage dams, series of bandharas across the state, Lift Irrigation Schemes, improved ponds/lakes, constructed wells and ground water structures to provide for raw water for irrigation, drinking and other uses in the state,” Minister said in his reply.
