GOVT TO APPROACH GST COUNCIL FOR EXEMPTION OF TIATR; VIJAY

Panaji (Goa) Goa government has decided to approach the GST council demanding exemption of tiatr from its ambit.

Minister Vijay Sardessai said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will be taking up the matter before the GST council demanding exemption of tiatr from GST regime.

“We will be make a strong case before the council,” he said.

Explaining in detail, Sardessai said that the tiatrist have three season in a year.

First season is from October to Carnival, during which 20 tiatr are released, while another ten are released during the second season from Easter to Rainy. The third season is held from June to October showcasing 15 tiatr’s.

He said that on an avergae 50-60 tiatr are released every year providing employment to 250-300 people with a spending of around Rs 65,000 per tiatr.  

“Their earning means profit behind each show is around Rs 20,000 but now they will have to shell out Rs 18,000 as GST,” he explained further.  

“Result is no profit no loss and under such situation why will anyone do tiatr? And if no incentives are provided, the tiatr will close down. We will be killing the essence of Goa,” he commented.
