Panaji (Goa) In what could be a major relief for Health Minister Vishwajit Rane ahead of the bypolls, the Goa bench of Bombay High Court has quashed and set aside the charge sheet and the Criminal Proceedings against him. Rane had approached the High Court seeking to quash the charge sheet and criminal proceedings before the JMFC which were filed pursuant to a complaint filed by social activist advocate Aires Rodrigues alleging threats to kill.
The petition filed before the High Court was also accompanied by an affidavit filed by Rodrigues stating therein that he is now not desirous on pursuing with the complaint filed on July 31, 2007 based on which FIR was registered by the Old Goa Police Station.
In his affidavit, Adv Rodrigues stated that now he enjoys a very cordial relationship with Rane, hence he has decided to forego the incident of 2007 and ‘move on in life without any bitterness.’
After hearing Advocate Galileo Teles appearing on behalf of Rane, Rodrigues who appeared in person and additional Public Prosecutor Pravin Faldessai, the court quashed the Charge Sheet and Criminal Proceedings against Rane.
The bench also permitted the petitioner to deposit Rs 1.50 lakh towards the Goa State Legal Fund which were also deposited before the High Court.
