Panaji (Goa): With an objective to improve the cleanliness on Goa’s beach, which will in turn boost tourism in the State, the current garbage collection agency Drishti Lifesaving Pvt. Ltd. alongside the Tourism Department is all set to introduce a new initiative on garbage collection. Just WhatsApp and help will be on its way.
In order to keep the Goan beaches clean, all of us can now do our part. The general public can inform Drishti Lifesaving on+91 9225580100 through a WhatsApp message about garbage strewn on the beach by sending a picture of the garbage followed by a WhatsApp text, stating the location and additionally sending across the WhatsApp location which is accurate up to a radius of 10 meters from where the garbage was spotted. The agency will take action over the complaint within the next 24 hours and a feedback message from the agency’s end will be sent to the sender.
The complaint can be registered by using three simple steps- First, click a pic of the garbage and send the image to +91 9225580100 through WhatsApp, then, using WhatsApp text the location of the garbage pile and send across the location coordinates which is accurate up-to a radius of 10 meters from where the garbage was spotted.
Some of the beaches covered under this programme are: (North Goa) :Querim, Arambol, Ashwem, Mandrem, Morjim, Vagator, Anjuna, Baga, Calangute, Candolim, Sinquerim, Miramar, Vaiguinim, Donapaula, Siridao and Bambolim
(South Goa) Baina, Bogmollo, Velsao, Hollant, Arrosim, Majorda, Utorda, Betalbatim, Colva, Benaulim, Varca, Zalor, Cavellosim, Mobor, Agonda, Pallolem, Patnem, Rajbagh, Talpona, Galgibag, Pollem
Upon a request from the State government, Drishti Lifesaving Pvt Ltd had begun handling beach cleaning on a temporary basis to support the effort of the government. The agency has an existing framework which includes infrastructure and management capability to effectively carry out the exercise along the beaches. The company has employed 236 manpower (139 in North and 97 in South) over the past five months to clear the garbage from the beaches.
From December 2016 till date, the agency has collected and transported 3,30,000 kgs of garbage from along the State’s coast and cleaned the beaches.
