Panaji (Goa) The Chief Electoral Office (CEO) will on Saturday launch a month long enrollment drive with a focus to enroll around 15,000 left out voters in the age group of 18-21 years.
The drive from July 1 to 31 will be held as per directions from the Election Commission of India (ECI), who observed low enrollment amongst the college going students across the country. In order to reach out to maximum eligible voters, the ECI is collaborating with Facebook to launch first Nationwide “Voter Registration Reminder” on 1 July.
Addressing media persons on Friday, CEO IAS Kunal said that the this year, in tune with the theme of ‘No Voters to be Left Behind’ , the ECI has decided to utilize the period of continuous updation, for maximization of enrolment of eligible young electors, particularly in 18-19 age group by launching special drive in all states.
As per the CEO list, the left out voters in the age of 18 years is 6,569, in the 19 age group it is 3,770, in 20 age group it is 2,563 and 2,075 in the age group of 21 years.
“The gap is not very high but we want to ensure that every eligible voter is enrolled,” he said adding ‘during this period even those older age groups who have not enrolled themselves can get their names added’.
As per the existing voters list, 11.10 lakhs voters have been enrolled themselves during the state assembly elections held in February.
CEO has organized special campaigns on July 8 and 22 during which camps will be held at each polling station where Booth level officer will sit to fill the Form 6. Special camps will also be conducted in all government and private educational institutions, vocational training institutions and nursing institutions during the period.
“During the special drive, removal of names of dead electors will also be undertaken. Deletion and corrections in the existing electoral roll will also take place,” Kunal said
The existing modes of submission of Form 6 are at EROs Office, sending by post or online submission at NVSP and collections by BLOs.
