After receiving a number of complaints of illegal occupation on footpaths near the municipal market, the officers of the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) conducted an inspection of the area on Friday morning.

The people had complained that the illegal encroachments on footpaths were hindering the movement of pedestrians as well as the traffic.

The inspection team sent by MMC chief officer Agnelo Fernandes found that streets in the market and the adjoining footpaths were occupied by handcarts selling vegetables and fruits. The erring vendors were later given a verbal warning by the inspection team of MMC.
