Miramar (Goa): Entire coast of Miramar and Caranzalem seems to be sitting on a major oil bomb with huge off shore casino vessel shifting towards the shore. The sources claimed that the vessel has 12,000 litres of diesel in it and any spillage be a huge environment hazard.

The ship which was being brought from Mormugao harbour to Mandovi River has got stuck at Aguada sand bar. Four crew members were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard.

The ship which seems to be in a situation beyond salvaging has dangerously come towards the shore. There are no attempts to move it out from there.

The Congress party has demanded that owner of off shore casino vessel be arrested.

“The attempt was done to bring in casino illegally by pressuring captain of ports. The casino has been grounded. Few workers have been injured,” All India Congress Committee Secretary Girish Chodankar told reporters today.

He said the vessel has more than 12,000 litres of diesel in it.

“If the diesel is spilled then it would adversely affect the environment. Who should be held responsible? The chief minister should make the statement,” he said.

Chodankar said the owners should be held responsible for this mess. “Casino has ran aground. The owner of this casino should be immediately arrested,” he said.
The Congress leader said that during recently held press conference he had already warned the State government against bringing in danger of trying to bring the vessel in River Mandovi during monsoon.
