Mapusa (Goa): Tension prevailed at Mapusa last night when a group of locals and tourists had a verbal dual. The locals outnumbered a group of tourists which was later brought to the police station.
The trouble began when a local taxi driver was allegedly bullied by a group of Maharashtra based tourists on their visit to Goa. His car was not allowed to pass and he was even manhandled, states the police complaint.
The sister of the taxi driver who was present at the scene was also assaulted by the tourists, which intensified the problem.
When the tourists began creating ruckus, locals rushed for the help of the taxi driver who outnumbered the tourists. The tourists then tried to flee from the spot with their car while one of the lady occupant alighted the bus.
The locals later stopped the bus and asked the women occupants to come to the police station. Mapusa police later detained the lady occupants and other men who had escaped from the scene in the car. The details of the incident is still awaited.
