Members of Jagrut Canaconkar has threatened to stage a hunger strike outside Canacona Municipality, if the issue of garbage disposal in Canacona is not resolved by Monday.

“The door-to-door garbage collection programme of Canacona municipality has been stopped and the garbage treatment plant at Dumane  is also in a very poor condition. Due to this garbage problem, the people of Canancona will again face contamination of water source, therefore we demand that environmental experts, as well as Pollution Control Board, should look into the matter,” a member said.  

The members also said that immediate action should be initiated as this garbage problem poses threat to the health and hygiene of the people of Canacona.
