PUNE: The Interdisciplinary School of Health Science of Savitribai Phule Pune University has achieved the recognition of a center of excellence from the Ministry of Ayush to carry out research in traditional medicine. The institute will receive a grant of Rs. 3.5 crore for the next three years and the Health Ministry grant of Rs. 95 lakh.
Fifteen national level fellowships will be provided for young teachers and researchers. Director of the Centre, Bhushan Patwardhan, said that they are working on how to use traditional methods such as Ayurveda along with a conventional vaccine to make it more efficient.
National center of cell science, Indian Institue of Science Education and Research Education, Manipal University, National Cancer Institute, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Mayo Clinic in the US are acting as consultants for the departments.
“The university will upgrade the infrastructure and increase the faculty,” SPPU vice-chancellor N R Karmalkar said.
