PUNE: After the request from school children for the BuddyCop system, which has been launched for the security of working women, the Pune city police will soon start ‘Police Kaka’ (Police Uncle) initiative to address various issues faced by the school and college students in Pune, Pimpri and Chinchwad.
Police commissioner Rashmi Shukla, who has posted a video message on Twitter about the initiative, said that, BuddyCop has received huge response that even school children know about it. A group of children approached demanding BuddyCop for them. Therefore we have come out with ‘Police Kaka’ initiative for them. As part of the initiative, a head constable rank policeman will be assigned to 3-4 schools or colleges. We will prominently display his/her phone number and name on the premises. The Police Kaka representative will address the problems of the students like complaints of ragging, bullying, eve-teasing among others. The senior police inspector in-charge of the police station will monitor the functioning of the system.
Police officials said that already there are complaint boxes in many schools where children write their grievances. It is opened by Damini Squad (female patrolling cops) once a week to read the complaints. “However, the Police Kaka can be approached anytime, and children can tell him/her about their problems”, Shukla added.
