PUNE: After 10 months of investigation, officials of the crime branch unit I have arrested two history-sheeters who were wanted in a murder case at Shukrawar Peth since September 2016. The arrested accuseds have been identified as Dinesh Dhavde (27) and Manoj alias Papya Shirke (27). The duo hails from Bopkhel.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Dahane, seven persons were earlier arrested in September 2016 for the murder of Arjun Devkar (27) who was shot dead in the Somwar Peth area by two persons. While the police were successful in arresting seven persons in the case, two persons were absconding since then. “Policemen Gajanan Sonune and Umesh Kate received a tip-off that the duo was hiding in Alibaug. Accordingly, a team of crime branch unit I left for Alibaug and the duo was nabbed,” added Dahane.
The police said that Arjun Devkar was involved in the murder of Rakesh Ghule in 2010 and hence, members of the Ghule gang murdered Arjun to take revenge of Rakesh’s murder.
Senior Police Inspector Nitin Bhosale Patil of crime branch unit I said that the duo was changing their location frequently and the police were facing difficulty in nabbing them. “Earlier, we had sent our teams to various places, but the accused were constantly changing locations. This time our tip-off was strong and the duo was nabbed,” added Bhosale Patil.
Dinesh Dhavde and Manoj Shirke were also involved in an attempt to murder case of Santosh Kurawat in Bhosari and are also booked in a theft case at Vishrantwadi police station. The police investigation team included, assistant police inspector Dhananjay Kapre, sub-inspector Dinesh Patil and other policemen Rajaram Surve, Prakash Lokhande, Ashok Mane, Sudhir Mane, Prashant Gaikwad, Mohan Yelpale, Irfan Momin, Shrikant Waghavale and Tushar Khadke.
