Pune –
A 4-day celebration of Women’s Week began in FTII Pune today, ahead of International Women’s Day (8th March 2018).
Ms Rashmi Shukla, Commissioner of Police,Pune and Ms Arunaraje Patil, ace film maker and FTII Alumna jointly inaugurated Women’s Week programme in FTII Campus today in the presence of Bhupendra Kainthola, Director FTII, Ms Suchitra Sathe, HoD, TV Editing and Ms Lata Burande,Dept of TV Engineering.
Exhorting women to rise from self-pity for their miseries, Ms Shukla in her inaugural address as Chief Guest said ,”Discrimination against the girl child or the newly-married bride begins first from home, before anywhere else. The person who aborts a girl child is a woman, and the bride burner is also usually a woman. So the sensitisation must start at home. That alone will produce men who treat women respectfully”.
5-time National Award winner and recipient of First Ladies Award 2018 by Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ms Arunaraje Patil asked why girls are told to return home by dusk when boys roam freely putting girls at risk. “Why can’t parents own up the monsters they give up birth to, boys who become molesters and rapists ? Paying homilies to women and their strengths gives them the delusion of trying to become superwoman which they are not” said Ms Patil.
The weeklong celebrations will be marked by sessions on Yoga, meditation, dance, diet-nutrition and cultural programmes. The concluding function on Women’s Day (8th March) will see felicitations of Ms Anjuli Shukla , First woman cinematographer to win National Award and Ms Kalpana Gupte, Head of IGNOU Regional Centre, Pune.
