Calangute (Goa): In a most watched battle, Michael Lobo led panel defeated Joseph Sequeira’s panel in Calangute panchayat ending his long stint in this body which is state’s richest panchayat.

Total 8 panch members from Lobo panel got elected in Calangute. The results were devastating for former Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira who himself lost along with his panel.

“This is the victory of people of Calangute. People used to be scared to vote out of their free will in past. This time they voted as per their conscience,” Lobo told TNV after sweeping the Calangute panchayat polls.

“This is a vote for change and people of Calangute will see the change in next five years,” he said.

The results today seems to be an end of political career of Joseph Sequeira who had unsuccessfully contested against Lobo during the recent State legislative assembly election.

Sequeira’s undoubted control over Calangute panchayat had become trouble point for Lobo. Several times in the past, both the leaders were seen coming face to face.

Lobo during assembly election campaigning itself had announced that he would field a panel in panchayat election.
