The mining dependents have staged a protest at Azad Maidan in Panaji today demanding immediate restart of mining activities in the State.

The mining dependents will be holding dharna throughout the day at Azad Maidan, under the banner of Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF).

If the Goa government fails to come out with a solution for the mining crisis, the agitators have warned to intensify their protest by marching on to Goa Assembly during the forthcoming monsoon session.

“As the government had promised that the solution to resume the mining activities will be figured out latest by June 7, we waited for some action with hope. However, no concrete steps have come from government to restart the mining activities. Hence, we have decided to go ahead with the dharna at Azad Maidan,” GMFP said in their press statement issued.
