Panaji (Goa): The Union Railway Ministry has stated that eight new trains were introduced in Goa during last three years of Narendra Modi-led government rule which has helped to increase the interest of tourists in this coastal state.
“In a region abounding in tourist destination, Konkan Railway acts as a catalyst for growth attracting both domestic and foreign tourists,” reads the brochure, which was unveiled this week by Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in presence of Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in Panaji.
“The Konkan Railway has opened new frontiers for Indian tourism as the places of tourists’ interest in Goa now have better access,” claims the brochure.
The brochure titled ‘Three years’ achievement of Indian Railways under leadership of Hon Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu’ has dedicated special section for Goa, which highlights the contribution of Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) in this State.
The union ministry has said that eight new trains were introduced in Goa including recently launched Tejas Superfast Express.
The other trains that were started during last three years includes Madgao-Rajdhani Express, LTT-Madgao Double Decker, LTT-Karmali AC weekly Express, NZM-TVC weekly train and Indore-Kochuveli Express.
The brochure also stated that the work of doubling the track has started. The KRCL will also add Eleven new stations and eight loop lines would also be commissioned in the Goa region.
Speaking about the project with Ratnagiri-based port, the brochure has mentioned that the concession agreement has been signed between Konkan Railway and Jaigarh Digni Rail Ltd (JDRL)).
The work has started along with the Land acquisition on the project.
JSW Jaigarh Port Ltd, an arm of JSW Infrastructure Ltd, has signed a concession agreement with KRCL to develop a 33.7-km stretch of the new railway corridor connecting port located at Ratnagiri (Maharashtra) to the new Digni station on Konkan railway network.
The Rs 771-crore project will help the port company to haul bulk commodities from Jaigarh port to Konkan Railway and further onward movement to hinterland. Pti rps
