Monkey fever which is also known as kyasanur forest disease took the first toll of this year. Gulabi Gawas, a 45-year-old, woman from Keri, Sattari died in Goa medical college and hospital due to KFD.
Gulabi Gawas who was being treated at Goa medical college and hospital (GMCH) died yesterday.
The woman was admitted in GMCH five days back as she had high fever, cough, breathleness and lose motion She was tested positive for monkey fever which has been prevalent in Sattari taluka.
She died due to “shock with acute respiratory distress syndrome.” The patient was diagnosed as suffering from monkey fever which is also called as kyasanur forest disease (KFD).
Goa government has set up a centre at Valpoi in Sattari taluka where the suspected KFD patients are being checked. The official said that the centre this year has tested 422 samples of which 75 were positive.
