Panaji (Goa) The four-month long monsoon season in Goa has finally ended with State facing 14 percent rainfall deficit for the season.

The official withdrawal of the south-west monsoons is yet to begin from the State, with Indian Meteorological Centre predicting rains for next few days.

 As per IMD record, State witnessed total of 100.6 inches of rainfall as compared to the normal 116.9 inches.

The IMD said that cumulative rainfall from June 1 to September 30 was 2,557.3 mm as against the normal precipitation of 2,917.7 mm, which was 14 percent less than the normal rainfall.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) the monsoon season in Goa was satisfactory.

IMD-Goa, Director, M L Sahu said, “The monsoon in Goa has still not withdrawn. Only for statistical purpose the season is ended. IMD only considers 4 months season. The season was satisfactory and the deficit was within the normal range.”

“The basic reason for the less rainfall this year was that in the month of July, the State received 25 percent less rainfall and this is due to less activeness of the offshore trough which generally continues for many days off the west coast of Maharashtra to Kerala,” he said.
