Panaji: Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral or Panaji legislator Siddharth Kuncolienkar, have shown willingness to quit as the member of legislative assembly to pave way for Manohar Parrikar’s by-poll.
Parrikar who took over as the Chief Minister of the State is yet to get elected to the legislative assembly. BJP sources confirmed that Cabral has volunteered to resign from Curchorem constituency to allow Parrikar contest in the constituency. The BJP leader had expressed his willingness to resign when the party had discussion on where to accommodate Parrikar.
BJP Goa Unit president Vinay Tendulkar said that either Cabral or Kuncolienkar will resign from their post. “Parrikar is more interested in Panaji constituency. But there is also an option open to contest from Curchorem,” he said.
When contacted, Cabral refused to comment but the sources close to him stated that he will resign sometime at the end of this month or first week of May.
Parrikar will have to get elected to the State legislative assembly within six months of being sworn in.
