Due to the latest reports of Nipah virus outbreak, which has claimed at least three lives in Kerala, the Goa health department has asked all hospitals in the state to remain alert.

The Goa health department is constantly in touch with the Kerala government to ascertain the impact and spread of the rare and deadly Nipah virus.
Nipah Virus is an infectious disease that broke out in Malaysia and Singapore in 1998 and 1999. It first appeared in domestic pigs and has been found among several species of domestic animals including dogs, cats, goats, horses and sheep. Symptoms include fever, head ache, fainting and nausea. In some cases, symptoms like choking, stomach pain, vomiting, fatigue and blurred vision could also be there. The patient may also go into a coma just two days after the symptoms begin.
