It was an exciting day for the Chess players and chess lovers as the day four of Goa state open FIDE rating senior chess championship 2018 ended with some crucial encounters. At the end of the 7th round, sole lead Niraj Saripalli was held for a draw by CM Leon Mendonca in a marathon game on the top board in 59 moves. On the second board, Ritviz Parab had an easy eye for a win against Parth Salvi in 31 moves and Devesh Naik defeated Sudhakar Patgar on the 3rd board.
Earlier in the 6th round, Niraj Saripalli obtained and won with the bishop pair with his class of positional and tactical play against Ritviz Parab in Ruy Lopez opening, whereas top seed FM Ameya Audi with white pieces was disappointed after losing to CM Leon Mendonca on the 2nd board playing against Sicilian defence and Devesh Anand Naik snatched win from Anirudh Parsekar in a clear dead draw bishop ending position after Anirudh blundered his bishop in the 58th move.
All eyes are waiting for the final results and to see the new State champion 2018 with two more rounds to be played on the final day ie:-12/07/2018 at CADA hall Curchorem-Goa. The tournament is organised by Quepem Taluka Chess Association under the aegis of Goa Chess Assciation and is recognised by Sports Authority of Goa and All India Chess Federation.
