Panaji (Goa): In a first attempt to introduce cycling track in the capital, renowned cycling company Hero Cycles launched on pilot Public Cycle Sharing System under the SMART City initiative in Panaji today.
Under the pilot project, two cycle stands have been set up with one at Old Secretariat and another at Old PWD at Patto, both of which are incidentally Serendipity Arts Festival venues.
The project was launched by Panaji’s former legislator and present Chairman of EDC Sidharth Kuncalienker in presence of businessmen Abhijat Parrikar and Sadanand Thakur and other senior officials from Hero Cycles.
One of the officials said that public feedback will be obtained after each ride, analysed and the final bike sharing system will be set up for entire Panaji city.
“Request all citizens of Panaji to try the new system and give valuable feedback,” he said.
Panaji is being upgraded under Centre’s Smart City project with one major change – introduction of cycling track across River Mandovi from Campal to Ribandar (outskirt of Panaji) on the cards. The capital has also been hosting various cycling rallies besides other events in a bid to upgrade infrastructure of the city.
