PANAJI TRAFFIC CELL DRAWS PLAN FOR SHIGMO, VENUE FOR FLOAT PARADE CHANGED

Panaji (Goa): Following good response to the shifting of float parade venue for Carnival, the State government has decided to change the route of Goa’s yet another annual festival – Shigmotsav – in the capital city of Panaji.

The government has chosen the same venue as that of Carnival, from Miramar to Caranzalem. The traffic plan is prepared in such a way that the revelers besides local residents are not at inconvenience due to traffic chaos.

With the fortnight long Shigmo parade starting on Saturday, it will reach Panaji on March 10. DSP Traffic (North District) Dharmesh Angle has informed that the parade will commence from Science Centre to Harley Davidson Showroom in Caranzalem. As many as 40 floats depicting Indian mythological themes, folk dances and other facets of the State will begin at around 4pmto roughly conclude at around 10pm.

No vehicular traffic will be allowed to up on the Dr Jack Sequeira road from the internal lanes from Caranzalem, and the traffic from Dona Paula coming towards Panaji will be diverted at Aivao junction via internal Caranzalem road to come till Adarsh Circle and proceed to Panjim via Miramar/St Inez. Traffic from Panaji proceeding towards Dona Paula will be diverted from Miramar Circle towards Tonca – Adarsh Circle – Santo Minguel High School, Taleigao – Taleigao Church to come up to Oitem junction and proceed further to their respective destination via Goa University road. Only residents of Caranzalem and route buses plying on Panjim – Dona Paula route will be allowed to proceed via Adarsh Circle towards Aivao junction.

VIP parking will be done on the road from Adarsh Circle to Science Centre while vehicles coming from North Goa will be parked at SAG Ground, Campal and vehicles coming from South Goa are advised to take road via GMC – Goa University – NIO Circle – Miramar and to park at Tourism Department’s parking lot near Green Rosary School, Dona Paula or at NIWS ground Caranzalem. Another parking lot is EDC complex at Patto.
