Panaji (GOA): While the polling continues at several booths till now, until 4pm the state election commission (SEC) has recorded 74.24 percent voting.
The SEC is expecting the final figures to touch 80 percent.
Addressing reporters, election commissioner RK Srivastava said that whoever were in line till 5pm were given chance to vote and accordingly, the voters are still in queue. “Untill 4pm, the voting had touched 74.24 percent,” he said.
“Looking at the trend, we hope the polling touches somewhere around 80 percent by the end,” Srivastava said adding that for the year 2012, total 81 percent people had casted vote.
Total 5223 candidates are in fray in 1450 wards, whose fate will be known on June 13. The voting held across 1417 booths.
Apprehending heavy rains, the SEC had set up water proof pandals across all booths.
“Overall the election was very peaceful. There were no complaints of any sort including violation of code of conduct,” the commissioner said.
Total 55 candidates are already elected unopposed.
The second phase of election for 16 wads in 11 panchayats is scheduled to July 1 and the counting on July 2.
