PANAJI ( GOA) Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar while launching his election campaign on Monday evening took a dig at Congress party ehich is struggling to find a suitable candidate against him for Panaji by-elections.

Opining Congress to allow him to contest unopposed, Parrikar announced to file his nomination papers on August 2 with blessings of Shree Mahalaxmi devasthan.

“Congress is already facing major embarrassment, wherein they are not able to find a suitable candidate against me,” he said addressing the campaign meeting organized by the panaji bjp mandal.

“They should have taken a stand and have just said that he (Parrikar) is a Chief Minister who is contesting and we (Congress) should leave the seat and let him get elected unopposed,” Parrikar, the five time Panjim MLA, said in presence of over hundreds of karyakartas.

The Panjim seat had fallen vacant post resignation of its former BJP MLA Siddharat Kuncolienkar, making way for Parrikar to re-contest. The by-elections are schedule to take place on August 23.

“Election will take place but voting may not take place,” Chief Minister commented.

“Congress will definitely field the candidate and then will have no face to show post the result,” he added.

Urging his karyakartas not be relaxed and work in full strength, Parrikar said that support system that will stand behind him during the election, will encourage and boost him to perform as Chief Minister of the State.

“The minimum votes I should get are 12,000. For that, all need to work,” he said.
