Panaji (GOA): As the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is all set for his week-long tour to US from Thursday, there will be no officiating in-charge of the State in his absence.
Parrikar, who will be back on July 13, is not keen on handling over his charge to any senior cabinet Ministers in his absence.
“I don’t think there is need to give charge just for four-five days. I will be available on phone whenever required,” he told reporters while informing about his US visit.
“The technology has changed so much that unless it is a very long visit…I don’t think there is need to give additional charge to anyone,” chief minister said.
In the past, in absence of then Chief Ministers- Parrikar and Laxmikant Parsekar, the additional charge was handed over to PWD Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar and then Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza.
“Chief Minister has not so far informed whether anyone will hold the additional charge in his absence,” CMO office confirms.
Parrikar will be in US from July 6-11 to address the 18th convention of Bruhan Maharashtra Mandal of North America (BMM). He is one of the key note speakers for the convention hosted by Maharashtra Mandal of Detroit to be held at Grand Rapids is a Michigan city from July 7-9.
Parrikar was invited by BMM when he was holding the charge as Union Defence Minister in January 2016. “It is strictly a personal visit and has nothing to do with State. Since I had given commitment well in advance, now I cannot push out,” he said.
