Panaji (Goa): The State cabinet on Monday accorded its approval to amend the Goa Lokayukta Act by increasing the age limit to serve in the office to 73 years. The decision helps the sitting Lokayukta Justice (retired) PK Mishra to continue in chair for another three years.

As per the amendment, likely to be introduced during the forthcoming monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly, the age limit to serve in the office is increased from 70 years to 73 years.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that cabinet decided to increase the age of Lokayukta for serving the office from 70 years to 73 years by making necessary amendment to the Goa Lokayukta Act.

Mishra was sworn in as Goa Lokayukta on April 28, 2016. His term was supposed to end this year as he attains 70 years age.

Mishra had served as chairperson of Goa human rights commission, and retired on March 4, 2016. He was also Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
