Panaji (Goa) Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said that Prime Minister’s office has sought detailed report about the possible economic impact on the State of Goa due to the Supreme Court order which has quashed 88 mining leases and has directed them to stop operation from March 16.

Parrikar said that he had received a call from Prime minister’s office, a day after the SC judgment, inquring about the possible impact of the SC verdict on the state.

“In fact when the judgment about mining was pronounced, he was not in India, but second day, I got a call from his office inquiring about the possible economic impact of the verdict,” the Chief Minister said

“They asked me to send a report immediately and if possible meet the Prime minister. This was the message from his office,” he said.

Parrikar said that the report would be submitted in another 10-15 days. “The report cannot be prepared in a haste. I have called for the meeting of all the MLAs from the mining belt tomorrow to understand the impact and also discuss the situation,” he said.

“It will take some time to analyse the possible impact on the State of the SC order. Right now there is no crisis because the mining is currently happening and it can happen till March 15,” he said.

Chief Minister said that all the political parties, MLAs and stakeholders will be taken into confidence while deciding in the mining matter.
