President of India Pranab Mukherjee was bestowed doctor of letters degree by Goa university today.

Mukherjee was bestowed the doctor of letters  (D. Litt) degree during twenty ninth annual convocation held at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium near here.

Governor Mridula Sinha who is also Chancellor of Goa University awarded the degree to Mukherjee.

State chief minister Manohar Parrikar was present as the special guest for the function.

One minute silence was observed during the convocation to pay homage to CRPF jawans who were martyred in Chhatisgarh yesterday.

Earlier, various degrees and diplomas were awarded to the students of Goa university. The certificates were handed over to them by the Governor.

Parrikar gave Swachhtam Mahavidyala Samman to the cleanest college of the state.
