Panaji (Goa) AAP has welcomed the judgment in mining by the Supreme Court stating that the renewal of mining leases was a bigger scam than investigated by M B Shah commission.

AAP Goa Convener Elvis Gomes said that the investigation should be done into the renewal of the mining leases.

Gomes said that the SC order is shameful for the State government which had failed to take action against the mine owners who were named by Shah commission in its inquiry.

While Congratulating petitioner, Goa Foundation for bringing out the illegality in renewal of mining leases, Gomes demanded that the inquiry should be initiated into the leasing of these mining sites.

“We are thankful to SC for intervening in the matter and stopping the illegality,” he said.

Gomes recalled that the BJP which rode to power in 2012 Goa Assembly Election raising the issue of illegal mining had failed to take action against the mine owners despite being in power for last six years.
