Panaji (Goa): Even as the activity to select right candidate for Rajya Sabha poll has stopped for time being, the choice for BJP is hovering between Rajendra Arlekar and Sanjiv Desai.
Top sources in BJP revealed that Nagpur headquartered RSS wants to project Rajendra Arlekar as the BJP candidate for Rajya Sabha from Goa, while the local unit has been lobbying for its treasurer Sanjiv Desai.
Arlekar who recently lost the election from Pernem constituency is one of the top leaders of the party and has been instrumental in growth of BJP in the state. Desai has always been considered as a man known for his organizational strength and longest serving treasurer of the party.
The process for selecting name of RS poll from Goa which had picked momentum has suddenly fallen flat as the dates for the elections have been postponed.
BJP nominated candidate will require support from Goa Forward Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and independents to win the poll.
