This Thursday, January 31, at 6.30 pm, Sachin Chatte will host the screening of the Iranian film Ten, directed by Abbas Kiarostami. It is considered to be one the director’s best film and a landmark in Iranian cinema.

Film: Ten (2002, Iran, with English subtitles)

Directed by: Abbas Kiarostami

Duration: 90 mins

Hailed as one of greatest film makers of all time, simplicity was the key to Abbas Kiarostami’s films. Ten which competed for the Palm d’Or at Cannes, is about a lady (Mania Akbari) in her 30’s who drives a car and picks up passengers – a series of conversations with the passengers. Filled with metaphors, the visuals are captured by a small digital camera on the dashboard and without too much fuss, Kiarostami weaves a spell, just through conversations – all the passengers are women, except for the drivers own son (played by her real life son). Barring Akbari, all the other actors are non-professionals.

A minimalist film, Ten inspired Jafar Panahi to make Taxi Tehran which won the Golden Bear at Berlin.
