Porvorim (Goa): Foreseeing a full-fledged mining operation in near future, former Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane has asked the government to decongest River Mandovi of off-shore casino vessels. “There is an alternate site to shift the off-shore casino vessels. Don’t allow more vessels in River Mandovi because soon mining will start and barge operators are not happy with the blocking of the river channel. Please see the river is not polluted,” he said during a discussion on the Motion Of Thanks on Governor’s Address. Rane was pointing at Haryana’s former minister Gopal Kanda-owned firm Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd’s M V Lucky 7 stranded off Miramar beach. The vessel has failed to sail till its allotted place off Campal even after leaving Mormugao Port Trust five days ago while also the fear of oil spillage looms large. NCP legislator Churchill Alemao on the other hand has asked the government to impose hefty entry fee for Goans to discourage the addiction of casino gambling.
This was not it. MGP’s Savordem Legislator Deepak Pawaskar has called for a blanket ban on the onshore and offshore casinos in Goa. The State has till date failed to find an alternate site forcing extensions to the vessels to remain in River Mandovi. In another extension, the vessels are allowed to stay in the river till September 2017. Four locations in River Sal, Zuari and Chapora; and Aguada bay failed after protests from the locals.
