The state Congress unit on Thursday termed the Serula comunidade land grab case as the biggest scam in the history of Goa, amounting to Rs 1,000 crore.

The Congress has also demanded that a CBI inquiry should be conducted into the case and has asked that revenue minister Rohan Khaunte to step down or that chief minister Manohar Parrikar shoul drop him from the Cabinet to allow a neutral and impartial probe.

Speaking to media persons GPCC president Girish Chodankar said, “although there are complaints pertaining to only 39 plots, the illegalities are linked to over 1,000 plots. We demand an inquiry into the matter by the CBI, or by a special investigation team (SIT) headed by a retired judge.”

“There will be hurdles in the investigation if Khaunte remains the revenue minister as the comunidades and all the departments that can unearth the scam come under him. Also, beneficiaries of the scam are his close aides,” Chodankar alleged.
