Panaji (Goa): Concerned over the spurt in crimes in the recent past including desecration of shrines, the Shiv Sena has asked the Goa police to crackdown on the miscreants whilst also accusing that some khaki-men are hand in gloves with matka agents.
A delegation of the political party met the deputy inspector general of police Rupinder Kumar on the failed law and order in the State.
The memorandum led with desecration of religious shrines reported in South Goa. State party president Shivprasad Joshi expressed fear over the incidents and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
Nearly six Crosses and a Nandi statue in Krishna Temple at Chandor and Margao within 72 hours has created flutters. While the police force is still groping in the dark to trace the unidentified accused, it has instructed all the police stations in the South district to form special team to gather intelligence and solve the cases.
Joshi also sought action against all those involved in attack on tourists at various places. The police was nevertheless quick to arrest three notorious criminals while the fourth surrendered himself to the police days later.
Whereas vice president Jitesh Kamat pointed at a series of chain snatching cases in Panjim while also blaming the police of not being prompt despite CCTV cameras fitted outside the shops.
District president Kishor Rao went to an extent accusing the police of conniving with the matka gamblers..He also stated that drugs and prostitution besides matka was spoiling the image of Goa nationally and internationally.
