Nagesh Verenker finished the State Table Tennis Championship on a high as he claimed a double crown, winning the Sub Junior and Junior Boys singles titles. In the finals of the championship organised by Goa Table Tennis Association (GTTA) in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa at Club Vasco Da Gama Hall, Nagesh won the sub junior and junior boys singles finals, both of which went down to the wire.
In Sub Junior finals, Nagesh scraped past Shantesh Mapsekar winning 3-2 (5-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6). In junior boys singles, he edged out Anshuman Agarwal 3-2 (6-11, 11-5, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7).
Diljeet Velingker wrapped up the Men’s singles title with 4-1 (11-3, 12-10, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8) win over Noel Noronha while in Ladies singles, it was Mallika Gogoi all the way as she registered a comfortable 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-6) win over Prutha Parrikar.
Khushal Naik dominated the mini cadet boys event, defeating Siddhant Parsekar 3-0 (11-7, 11-4, 11-9). In mini cadets girls section, top seed Trisha Verlekar was stretched by Riya Gopi before prevailing to a thrilling 3-2 (16-14, 3-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8) win.
The cadet boys finals too was a cliff hanger with fortunes fluctuating from set to set. Aaron Farias emerged on top, defeating Vivek Cotta Cravalho 3-2 (8-11, 11-9, 11-6, 8-11, 11-6). Simran Kubal defeated Anushri Naik 3-1 (11-13, 11-6, 11-3, 11-8) to win the cadet girls title.
In Sub junior girls singles, Sanisha Shetye put up a fantastic effort to come back from a 2-0 deficit and upset top seed Sneha Rane 3-2 (2-11, 5-11, 11-8, 11-6, 12-10). Prutha Parrikar won the Junior Girls singles title with a 3-1 (11-5, 11-8, 12-14, 11-8) win over Aditi Chodankar. Ruchi Kirtani was awarded most promising player cup.
Former India International player Tanisi Kirtani, Vero Nunes (President, GTTA), Suresh Bhangui (Secretary, GTTA), Subhash Pandit (Treasurer, GTTA), Sudin Verenker and Vishnu Kolwalkar(Vice Presidents, GTTA), and Paulino Sousa (President, Club Vasco Da Gama) graced the closing function.
