PANAJI (GOA): It was a proud moment for The Neutral View family when its very own member Amey Joshi was selected by the Goa Basketball Association to appear for the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) Panel B referees examination along with another GBA referee Amit Madwalkar at the recently concluded 68th Junior National Basketball Championship at Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
Amey Joshi who works as a sub-editor at The Neutral View magazine, has been refereeing Basketball matches in some of the prestigious tournaments in the state, such as GBA State Championship, the YMCA Basketball Championship, SAG Inter-School Tournament and many more.
The 68th Junior National Basketball Championship was conducted from June 4th to 11th at Shiv Nadar University in Noida.
A total of 32 candidates from different parts of the country appeared for the examination in order to upgrade as BFI Panel B referees.
Before the commencement of the tournament a briefing for the test referees was conducted by FIBA Technical Commissioners Norman Isaacs and Danapal Veerasamy.
Amey Joshi who is also a member of team TNV said that, the referees nominated by their respective associations to appear for the exam were tested throughout the tournament as they were asked to perform technical duties on the scorer’s table such as writing scores, operating game clock and shot clock for the matches. The actual examination was conducted on the last two days of the tournament, which consisted of a written test, a practical exam and a fitness test.
“Basketball is a game with lots of rules and technicalities, the experience that we have gained and things that we have learnt will certainly help us to improve our refereeing skills and we will try to pass on this experience to individuals who want to become Basketball referees”, said Amit Madwalkar.
Both the Goan referees were mentored by Olencio Dias from Margao who was himself a BFI Panel A referee.
