India U-16 football team to play in 4-nation meet
NEW DELHI: The Indian U-16 football team will face Jordan, Tajikistan and hosts Serbia in May in a four-nation tournament, an exposure meet to accelerate the preparations for the AFC Under-16 Championship later this year, it was announced on Tuesday. The exposure tournament comes less than a month after the team played against the U-16 National teams of the US and Norway in the Sportchain International Friendlies.
All the exposure tours have been planned to help the team prepare in the best possible fashion for the forthcoming Asia U-16 Championship in Malaysia between September 20 and October 7. This is India’s third qualification to the AFC U-16 in the last four editions. (IANS)

CAC Cansaulim clinch Pax of Goa trophy
NAGOA: CAC Cansaulim defeated Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 1-0 to clinch the Pax of Nagoa football trophy football tournament organised by PAX of Nagoa SC, played at Nagoa panchayat ground, Verna, on Tuesday.
Don Bosco striker Necil Pinto had the first chance of the match but the latter’s shot flew over the Cansaulim cross bar in the second minute. At the other end, Cansaulim through striker Dexter Fernandes’ shot failed to pop up into the Fatorda net in the eight minute. Cansualim striker Dominic Soares missed two great sitters from the box of Fatorda in the 24th and 26th minute. (HERALD)
Panjim Footballers win thrilling encounter
AMBELIM: Panjim Footballers beat Vasco SC 5-4 via the tie-breaker in match 3 of the Goa Sevens Premier League, organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club in association with Goa Football Association (GFA) at Ambelim Sports Complex, on Tuesday. Mickey Fernandes and Franky Oliveira scored a goal each for the Port Town side while Gautam Dias and Stendly Fernandes scored for the capital side. We are working on inviting police teams from the North east and the South,” said Anthony Monseratte , DYSP Sports of Goa Police. The Goa Police Cup was started in 1968 and is therefore celebrating fifty years. This is the 15th edition of the tournament. “ Organisational problems must have cropped up. But I am trying to create a system in place that even if I am transferred or after I retire, the Cup will continue to be an annual affair. SA Cricketers, Albert Developers in quarters
PANAJI: SA Cricketers beat Girim Panchayat by six wickets and Albert Developers defeated Manorva SC, Anjuna by seven wickets to reach the quarterfinals of Betim United T20 Panchayat Level Cricket Tournament, at SAG ground, Campal on Tuesday. In the first match, Girim posted a paltry 88 all out in 17.3 overs, which SA Cricketers overhauled losing just 4 wickets. Dattesh Priolkar (30) and Siddesh Kunkolikar (22) were the main run-getters for the winners. In the second match, Maonra SC scored 115 for 7 in 20 overs. Gaurish Khandeparkar (4 for 18) was the most successful bowler for Albert Developers. In reply, Tek Bahadur’s 67 and Amulya Pandrekar’s 32 helped Albert Developers achieve the target in just 14.4 overs.
