GOLD COAST: Former World No. 1 Saina Nehwal gave a master-class of attacking badminton to win India’s 26th gold, beating teammate and Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu on the final day at the Games here on Sunday. It was one of India’s bestever showing in a Games abroad — 26 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze, across nine disciplines. And fittingly, India’s final gold came from the pioneering shuttler Saina, who beat Sindhu in 21-18, 23-21 in the final. (TNN)
CWG 2018: India finish on 66-medal high
GOLD COAST: The 2018 Commonwealth Games has become India’s third most successful CWG of all time, with a 200-plus contingent delivering 66 medals to outdo the 64 from Glasgow four years ago and finish behind the 101 from Delhi in 2010 and 69 from the 2002 Melbourne Games. (TNN)

GOLD COAST: Seasoned campaigner Achanta Sharath Kamal signed off his Commonwealth Games campaign with another bronze medal in men’s singles table tennis competition here on Sunday. In the 3-4th place match, the 35-year-old Indian defeated Samuel Walker of England 4-1 (11-7, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6, 12-10) at the Oxenford Studios. It was Kamal’s third medal in singles after winning gold in Melbourne (2006) and bronze in New Delhi (2010). (PTI)
CWG 2018: Railways athletes win 10 out of 26 gold for India
MUMBAI: Indian Railways said that it was a matter of pride that 40 per cent of gold medals for India, 10 out of 26 in the recently concluded Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, were won by Railway athletes.
The Indian contingent, with 66 medals in all, turned in its finest performance ever at the CWG games standing third in the medals tally. (PTI)

GOLD COAST: If the opening was about history and traditions, the signing off was all about celebration as Gold Coast threw a big party to mark the end of the 21st Commonwealth Games with the legendary boxer MC Mary Kom carrying the flag for India at the closing ceremony. A packed Carrara stadium bid goodbye to the thousands of athletes and officials, who descended on this coastal city for 12 days of competition during which India pulled off its third-best ever medal count of 66, 26 of them gold. FC Goa players Brandon Fernandes, Bruno Pinheiro and Sergio Juste along with Jamshedpur FC’s Subrata Paul, Anas Edathodika, Kervens Belfort and their goalkeeping coach Robert Andrew have been given an “additional two consecutive match suspensions over and in addition to the automatic suspensions of the subsequent match imposed under the AIFF Disciplinary Code, be it under Hero Super Cup or otherwise played under AIFF regulations, and during the suspension period, bans all of them from the dressing room/substitutes’ bench as well as the stadium,” according to a statement issued by the All India football Federation (AIFF) Disciplinary committee. Stendly treble sinks Churchill
FATORDA: Riding on a treble by striker Stendly Fernandes and a strike from medio Lloyd Mascarenhas, Sporting Clube de Goa thrashed Churchill Brothers 4-0 in the GFA Air Arabia U-18 Football League match played at artificial turf grounds, Fatorda-Margao on Sunday.
Stendly found the mark in the 34th, 40th and 70th minute while Lloyd’s goal came in the 80+2 minute.(NT)
