Panaji (GOA) Total eleven candidates have filed their nominations for the upcoming by-elections for Panjim and Valpoi assembly constituencies scheduled on August 23.
Six candidates including Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar have filed nominations from Panjim assembly seat. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and four others have filed nominations from Valpoi constituency.
The nomination process ended today. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on August 7 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is on August 9.
Parrikar (BJP), Siddharat Kucolienkar (BJP), Girish Chodankar (Congress), Sankalp Amonkar (Congress), Anand Shirodkar (Goa Suraksha Manch) and Kenneth Silveira (Independent) are candidates who have filed from Panjim.
North District office received total 12 nomination sets.
From Valpoi, the candidates are Rane (BJP), his wife Deviya Rane (BJP), Roy Naik (Congress), Ritesh Naik (Congress) and Rohidas Gaonkar (Independent). Together they have filed total eight nomination papers.
Chief Electoral Office (CEO) confirmed that the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) device would be used for the polling purpose.
Total 51,032 voters are eligible to cast their vote during the by-election as the electoral roll published in January, this year. These include 22,203 voters in Panjim and 28,829 voters from Valpoi.
The counting of votes will take place on August 28.
