TOURIST DROWNED AT SINQUERIM BEACH

Sinquerim (Goa): One Chandan Gujjar drowned at the tourist-popular Sinquerim beach after being hit by a strong wave on Wednesday. The Drishti Lifesavings Pvt Ltd, that has deployed 700-odd lifeguards across the beaches in the State, stated that Gujjar along with his brother and two other friends had ventured onto the rocky area at Fort Aguada. The victim and his companions went down onto the rocks to click pictures when an oncoming wave hit the 22-year-old and he fell into the water.

The incident was brought to the notice of Lifeguard Manoj Rawol who was patrolling along the Sinquerim beach stretch. He in turn immediately informed the lifeguard tower about the incident. Lifeguard captain Sunil Matondkar and the Indian Reserve Battalian were rushed to the spot to conduct rescue operations but were unable to trace the victim. The body was found washed ashore this morning. The victim and the three others were working at a restaurant nearby. The agency has clarified that the incident-site does not fall in its jurisdiction.
