Miramar (Goa): After moving around 60 mtrs in last two days, the salvors of M/s VMS Marine LLC (Egypt) temporarily called off the salvaging of the off-shore casino vessel M V Lucky 7 for two days. The salvors conveyed the decision to the government today after it realized some technical glitches besides adverse water tide.
The Ports Administration has thus scheduled resuming the towing exercise on Saturday or Sunday, as the height of the tide seems perfect. “The water tide has receded since last evening. It did not come to a proper height today because of which we had to postpone the salvaging operation. Weekend seems good days to resume the exercise,” said one of the experts, who is closely monitoring the entire exercise.
The vessel has turned weak with fresh cracks developing periodically. The flowing of water inside the vessel through the gushing hole beneath and deposition of sand has aggravated the problem although the salvors claim, it is being pumped out. “Once the vessel is taken in deeper waters, the bottom portion of the vessel will be sealed. The difficulty is only at its present location at Miramar beach where we find some sand bars,” he said. Three tug boats are presently anchored around the vessel for the towing operation.
Since Sunday when the salvors began the operation, the vessel has moved only about 110 mtrs. The only good news is that after remaining aground for more than a month, it is now re-floating.
Politician Gopal Kanda’s Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd that owns the vessel has sent its officials to keep a tab on the situation.
